Nimisha Priya’s Yemen Death Sentence

Is It Really Overturned?

The office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar claimed Yemen has revoked the death sentence after diplomatic talks.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs called the reports “inaccurate,” stating there's no official confirmation from Yemen about any cancellation.

Talal Mahdi’s brother, the victim in the case, rejected any forgiveness, refusing to accept blood money under Yemeni Sharia law.

In 2017, Nimisha was convicted in Yemen for murdering her business partner. She was sentenced to death and has been on death row since 2020.

Nimisha’s daughter, Mishel, traveled to Yemen seeking mercy. Her plea has moved many and sparked international efforts.

Though the execution was delayed on July 16, no legal order yet confirms cancellation. Negotiations are still ongoing. With conflicting statements and no written confirmation, Nimisha Priya’s fate remains uncertain.
